Zirconia is the first company to invent a ceramic coating that chemically bonds to concrete and steel at room temperature, with no kiln required. The resulting coating is inert, has an indefinite lifespan, and permanently stops corrosion. No other material does this.
Development began in 1998 at Rutgers University, supported by over $2,000,000 in grant funding. Projects completed in the 2000s still look new today. Zirconia Inc. was formed in 2017 to commercialize and improve that technology using newly available nanoparticles and specialty manufacturing methods.
Concrete and steel underpin water, food, energy and transportation networks worldwide. Corrosion and surface failure drive enormous recurring maintenance and reconstruction costs. Ceramic Surface Treatment extends asset life and dramatically lowers those costs for owners and operators.
By avoiding the need to demolish and rebuild corroded infrastructure, our technology reduces carbon emissions at a structural level. This is how Zirconia is Preserving the Future, not just protecting surfaces.
Zirconia is an advanced materials technology company headquartered in the United States. Our Ceramic Surface Treatment products are proven across water infrastructure, transit, food processing, industrial, and commercial construction. The core team combines expertise in civil engineering, materials science, mechanical engineering, and technical sales, led by founder and CEO Benjamin Cook alongside CTO and co-founder Muralee Balaguru, who designed the original Ceramic Surface Treatments.
Our product lines include CeramycGuard, CG HeatShield, Ceramic System PoreBlocker, ActiveCure, Fortress XD, BulletProof, AquaGuard, CrossLinker and TruComposite. Each is engineered for a specific substrate and environment, giving specifiers and contractors the right solution for every condition.

Zirconia is led by CEO and founder Benjamin Cook, a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience building environmental labs, consultancies and green building materials businesses. The founding team also includes CTO Muralee Balaguru, the engineer who designed Zirconia's Ceramic Surface Treatments.
Zirconia has a commercially proven product line deployed across multiple industries and geographies. The technology originated from over two decades of university research and has been under active commercial development since 2017.
